   Coventry Irish Festival

 

    Friday 21st October

Lunch Club and Health Fair Britannia Hotel, Fairfax Street: 11.30am – 5pm

2 course lunch with tea and coffee, music from Frankie and a raffle. Local organisations

will be on hand with  information and advice, product samples and pampering treatments!

£5: lunch club members / £7.50: non members: Must be purchased in advance from CIS offices

Live entertainment from Christy Pepper, with free stew.

Sunday 23rd October

Join Coventry Comhaltas for lessons followed by live traditional music

Wednesday 26th October

Coventry Irish Friendship Society Flannelly’s, Holyhead Road: 12.30pm – 2.30pm

A regular social group for over 50s, with activities including bingo, raffles and day trips.

Thursday 27th October

Cara Friendship Group Flannelly’s, Holyhead Road: 12pm – 3pm

‘Cara’ is Gaelic for ‘friend’ so why not join Irish friends for lunch (Irish stew, plus tea /     coffee), while catching up at this new regular social group.

£3.50 per person, per session. No need to book.

 Social Groups & Events

WELCOME GROUP

An informal social group who meet every for an informal chat, discussing recent events and news, as well as sharing stories, memories, music and poetry from Ireland.

The Welcome Group meets every other Monday afternoon at Coventry Irish Society offices, 2-4pm. All welcome. Free of charge. Refreshments provided

COFFEE MORNING

A regular drop in coffee morning is planned for 2009. Further information coming soon

LUNCH CLUB

A friendly and informal club, who meet at city centre venues for lunch and entertainment every other month. With around 120 members, the lunch club is an opportunity to socialise and meet friends new and old. There is no charge to join the lunch club

HERITAGE GROUP

An informal group meeting to discuss a variety of subjects and an opportunity to share facts and opinions, as well as discuss and debate Irish history and heritage. Sessions have included discussions on early Ireland, famous Irish men and women, the Irish abroad and Irish culture.

The group meets on the second Thursday of each month at Coventry Irish Society offices, 2-4pm All welcome.
Free of charge. Refreshments provided

In addition to these meetings, there will be a number of evening sessions throughout the year with guest speakers focusing on a number of different subjects including:
Michael Collins
The Industrial Schools of Ireland
The Politics of Northern Ireland
Family History and Geneology

DAY TRIPS

Coventry Irish Society also organises a number of day trips throughout the year. Past trips have included Lincoln, Stratford, the Ironbridge Museum and other Irish centres. Although there is a cost for trips, this covers return coach travel, attraction entrance fee and a hot meal. 2009 trips include:
Nottingham Irish Centre (lunch club members only)
Cadbury’s World
Stratford upon Avon
Birmingham Back to Backs (National Trust property)

Other social events include theatre visits, barbeques and members parties.
