About Us

Coventry Irish Society provides a service to all generations of the Irish community in Coventry and the surrounding areas.

The Coventry Irish Society (formerly known as ICARG) was set up in 1993 in response to a need to provide health and welfare services to some of the most vulnerable members of the Irish community in Coventry.

Our organisation has gradually evolved to provide a wide range of health and welfare services and a variety of cultural and heritage projects. We currently have 7 full time members of staff and 1 part time member. We also have a considerable bank of volunteers working on a variety of projects.

Aims

We aim to provide a culturally sensitive service and to get the necessary help, support and advice to as many Irish people as possible. We have a long tradition of helping the most vulnerable members of the Irish community in Coventry and continue to prioritise this. Coventry Irish Society also acts as a ‘gateway’ that enables Coventry’s Irish community to access other mainstream services.

Another fundamental aim is to promote a positive sense of Irish identity within the city.

The Creation of an Irish Heritage Centre

One of our long-term aims it to create an Irish Heritage Centre that can be accessed by all generations of the Irish community. An Irish Heritage Centre will enable us to contribute to the continuity and development of Irish heritage and culture within the city of Coventry. We believe this project is a particularly important development for the Second and Third generation Irish community and the promotion of a positive Irish identity within Coventry.

Coventry Irish Society is affiliated to the Federation of Irish Societies that is the umbrella organisation for the Irish community in Britain. irishsocieties.org
